About The Trek

Gaumukh Tapovan Trek

The Gaumukh Tapovan Trek takes you deep into the high Himalayas to one of the most sacred and visually dramatic landscapes of Uttarakhand. The journey begins at Gangotri, one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites, and enters the pristine wilderness of Gangotri National Park.

The trail follows the Bhagirathi River through beautiful Himalayan terrain, passing through Chirbasa and Bhojbasa before reaching Gaumukh, the glacial source of the Bhagirathi River. From Gaumukh, the trail becomes considerably more demanding as you climb towards Tapovan.

Tapovan is renowned for its vast alpine meadows and extraordinary views of Shivling Peak, Meru, Bhagirathi I, II and III and surrounding Himalayan peaks. The combination of glaciers, rugged mountain faces, high-altitude meadows and spiritual significance makes this trek an unforgettable Himalayan experience.

The route passes through Gangotri National Park, so trekkers need the required permits. A guide is required for the Tapovan section, and entry to the park is regulated.
